In honor of Muhammadu Buhari, the late former president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Federal Government has proclaimed Tuesday, July 15, 2025, a public holiday.
According to a statement issued by Magdalene Ajani, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, the holiday is in continuation of the seven days of national mourning that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has proclaimed.
The declaration was made on behalf of the Federal Government by the Honorable Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, after His Excellency, President Tinubu, gave his approval, according to the statement.
According to the Minister, the holiday honors the late President’s national service, his contributions to Nigeria’s democratic transition, and his lasting influence on national development and governance.
“President Muhammadu Buhari served Nigeria with dedication, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to the unity and progress of our great nation. This public holiday provides an opportunity for all Nigerians to reflect on his life, leadership, and the values he upheld” the Minister stated
In keeping with his vision of a prosperous and united Nigeria, he called on people to use the day to honor the late President’s memory by fostering peace, patriotism, and national cohesion.
As previously stated, starting on Sunday, July 13, 2025, the national flag will fly at half mast for the seven days of mourning.
The Federal Government prays for the peaceful rest of the late President’s soul and offers its sincere condolences to his family, the people of Katsina State, and all Nigerians.
