Before this appointment, he served as Managing Partner of a respected tax advisory firm. He also worked as Technical Advisor to the Joint Senate Committees on the Federal Capital Territory and Finance, and as Technical Advisor to the Chief Economic Adviser to former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Dr. Nwabueze holds a Doctor of Business Administration (Finance)** from Walden University, Minneapolis, and a Master’s degree in Accounting from Strayer University, Washington, D.C. He also earned two Bachelor of Science degrees in Accounting and Mathematics from the University of Jos, Nigeria.

“President Tinubu congratulates Nwabueze on this appointment and expresses confidence in his capacity to discharge his duties with integrity, diligence, and professionalism,” Onanuga said.

According to the statement, the Office of the Tax Ombudsman was created to promote transparency and accountability in Nigeria’s tax system. It aims to strengthen public confidence in tax administration and ensure fair resolution of disputes between taxpayers and revenue authorities.

“The Office shall receive, review, and resolve complaints related to taxes, levies, regulatory fees, customs duties, excise matters, and similar issues in line with existing laws,” the statement added.

The Office also ensures that officials handle all disputes fairly, efficiently, and without bias, protecting taxpayers from power misuse.
