Wike gives Abuja property owners 14-day grace period to pay a ₦5 million land use conversion fee or face strict enforcement by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).
Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to Minister Nyesom Wike, announced the decision in a statement on Sunday. The new deadline applies to property owners in Asokoro, Maitama, Garki, and Wuse, starting Tuesday, November 11, 2025.
Olayinka explained that the minister’s directive follows the expiration of an earlier 30-day window for affected property owners to regularize their land use.
“Failure to comply within the stated 14 calendar days grace period will result in enforcement actions by the FCT Administration,” he warned.
According to the statement, the grace period is part of Wike’s effort to encourage voluntary compliance before the administration begins tougher enforcement measures.
The notice stated: “Sequel to the Public Notices made by the FCTA on September 8th, 9th, and 10th, 2025, in national dailies and online platforms, allottees and title holders of properties in the listed areas are reminded that the 30-day payment period for the ₦5 million penalty and other applicable fees has since expired.”
However, Minister Wike has “magnanimously granted a final grace period of 14 calendar days from Tuesday, November 11, 2025,” for all affected owners to comply with land use conversion terms.
The affected streets include Gana Street and Usuma Street in Maitama; Yakubu Gowon Crescent in Asokoro; Aminu Kano Crescent and Adetokunbo Ademola Crescent in Wuse II; and Ladoke Akintola Boulevard, Gimbiya Street, and Onitsha Street in Garki II. Others are Ogbomosho Street, Lafia Close, Yola Street, Abriba Close, Danbatta Street, Ringim Close, and Ilorin Street in Garki I District.
In early September, Wike penalized several Abuja property owners for illegally converting residential buildings into commercial spaces and warned that his administration would no longer tolerate such violations.
