Temilade Openiyi, better known by her stage name Tems, is a Nigerian Grammy Award-winning singer who became the first African performer to appear at the first FIFA Club World Cup Final Halftime Show on Sunday night.
The performance happened during the tournament’s 2025 final at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, in the United States.
Coldplay and Emmanuel Kelly made unexpected appearances during the 15-minute show, which featured Tems as the main act alongside international superstars Doja Cat and J Balvin. Global Citizen and FIFA collaborated on the show’s production.
J Balvin’s hits “Mi Gente” and “Reggaeton” opened the show, and Tems’ Grammy-winning song “Love Me JeJe” came next.
Doja Cat followed with her hit song “Woman,” and Coldplay ended the show with “A Sky Full of Stars,” which featured Emmanuel Kelly.
Tems’s vocals and stage presence delighted football and music fans alike. As of this report, she has not commented on the performance, but it continues her growing international streak, which includes appearances on major Hollywood soundtracks and her debut at the Met Gala.
Chelsea shocked European champions Paris Saint-Germain with a commanding 3-0 victory in the final, which was equally memorable. The spectacle was made even more spectacular by the fact that over 81,000 people attended, including US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump.
Chelsea’s victory made them the first-ever winners of FIFA’s 32-team Club World Cup, capping a season in which they also won the UEFA Conference League and finished fourth in the Premier League.
