Chelsea has once again created history. At the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, USA, the Blues defeated French powerhouse Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 in the final, making them the first team to win the FIFA Club World Cup under the new format.
Cole Palmer was the night’s hero with João Pedro adding the third goal to complete the victory and deny PSG the opportunity to complete a perfect trophy sweep this season.
It’s interesting to note that both teams lost to Brazilian clubs in the group stage, but they recovered well to advance to the championship game.
Enzo Maresca, the coach of Chelsea, obviously had a strategy, and it was a success. Palmer quickly stepped up like a true superstar as the Blues to applied pressure. He first scored by coolly finishing off a pass from Malo Gusto.
A few minutes later, he scored again with a stunning solo effort in which he twisted past defenders and slotted the ball into the net.
PSG appeared totally disoriented following the second goal. Palmer then took the initiative to set up João Pedro, who chipped the ball over Donnarumma to give Chelsea their third goal as they were attempting to regroup.
PSG attempted to rally in the second half, but Chelsea goalie Robert Sánchez was not amenable. To maintain the clean sheet, he made outstanding saves against Vitinha and Ousmane Dembélé.
Liam Delap, a Chelsea substitute, was also denied by Donnarumma’s incredible save, but the damage had already been done. When João Neves was sent off for dragging Cucurella by the hair in the 84th minute, PSG’s night took a turn for the worse.
Under new manager Enzo Maresca, Chelsea has achieved yet another significant victory. They added another significant championship after winning the UEFA Conference League in May, which was their first trophy since their last Club World Cup victory in 2021.
