Pastor William Kumuyi, the General Superintendent of Deeper Christian Life Ministry, has addressed the church’s succession issue, stating that no one will exert pressure or control over him. Speaking at the church’s leaders’ meeting, the clergyman made it plain that he would not be pressured to resign from his position as leader and that he would continue to lead with conviction.

“I’m wondering why this young man is emphasising successor, Pastor Kumuyi said, in response to some churchgoers’ recent emphasis on the subject of succession. Are they tired of me? Are you tired of me?

“Anyone trying to control me, I will not take it; not even from my wife. I am the head of the home.

“I have been preaching before I married my first wife, and even before I married the second wife after the first passed away. “I stand where I stand with conviction, and nobody will put me under.”

Kumuyi remembered that in a recent sermon, a church leader had made reference to succession twice. He claimed that although he initially refrained from commenting, his close friends and family are aware of how dedicated he is to his ministry work. He listed a few biblical figures along with their descendants, emphasizing that God selected their heirs.

“You are not going to fight your shepherd, your pilot,” Kumuyi said, clearly hurt that some churchgoers did not seem to enjoy his presence. “I reject any member of the church, whether you are a worker, choir member, or security person, who tries to control me”

“I don’t generally sleep until 2 a.m., sometimes 2:30 a.m., digging into the Word and preparing to give my best to the church. Yet there are some people who still want to restrict where I preach, how I preach, and how long I preach. I will not take that,” he said.

“You don’t want to make me feel I’m imposing myself on you.”

“When the time comes, God will choose a man after His own heart,” he said, announcing the arrival of a successor. Don’t try to drive me away, even though I know you cannot.”

He emphasized that resistance to the pastor’s divinely mandated work was “useless” and would not bring him any rewards in heaven, adding that spiritual development required unlearning ineffective practices. “I will keep on teaching until I go.”
