Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have raided the Green Legacy Hotel, situated within the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) premises in Abeokuta, arresting several suspected internet fraudsters during a pool party.
The operation, reportedly carried out by EFCC’s Lagos Directorate in the early hours of Sunday, saw youths fleeing as gunshots rang out. Sources confirmed that over 20 luxury cars and other valuable items were seized during the raid.
The incident comes just five days after EFCC’s Ibadan Zonal Directorate arrested 55 suspected fraudsters, including one in possession of two locally-made pistols, during a raid at K-Hotel in Itori, Ewekoro, Ogun State.
A viral video from Sunday’s raid showed panic among attendees, with many scampering for safety.
Managing Director of OOPL Ventures, Vitalis Ortese, confirmed the raid but declined to provide details, promising further updates. EFCC spokespersons Ayo Oyewole and Dele Oyewale have yet to release an official statement on the operation.
