Oba Akeem Owoade, the Alaafin of Oyo, has denied rumors that he is fighting for supremacy with other monarchs, such as Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife.
The king emphasized that his priorities continue to be the welfare, culture, and advancement of his people rather than competition with any other traditional ruler in a statement released Thursday in Ibadan by his Director of Media and Publicity, Bode Durojaiye.
The statement follows allegations of conflict after businessman Dotun Sanusi was given the title “Okanlomo of Oduwa” by the Ooni during the launch of the native social media platform, 2geda, at the Ilaji Hotel in Ibadan.
According to the statement, “The Alaafin does not need to engage in any battle for supremacy with any Oba, whether in Yorubaland or elsewhere,. “He is a steadfast custodian of Yoruba culture and tradition, always mindful of the safety and welfare of his subjects”
The statement further underlined that the monarch is still dedicated to preserving Oyo and Yorubaland’s traditional legacy and that his reign is determined by the prosperity of his subjects.
The message emphasized the Alaafin’s position as a traditional leader committed to upholding and advancing Yoruba traditions and mentioned his promise to keep bolstering the throne’s cultural heritage.
Oba Owoade reiterated that his administration would continue to prioritize peace, togetherness, and the advancement of his people as a whole.
