Former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has reaffirmed his 2027 presidential bid under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Amaechi made this declaration in Kano on Wednesday during an interaction with journalists after meeting a coalition of traders.

He stated that he would not step aside for any aspirant in the ADC primary.

“I will contest the ADC presidential primary, and by God’s grace, I hope to win so that I can face Tinubu in 2027. I am not stepping down for anyone. Let the people decide who they want to lead,” Amaechi said.

The former Minister of Transportation stressed that a transparent primary would strengthen the ADC. He argued that internal democracy must be upheld.

Amaechi criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration, saying Nigerians face hardship and dissatisfaction nationwide.

“Whether the government conducts credible elections or not, Nigerians are tired. People are suffering everywhere,” he added.

On political appointments, Rotimi Amaechi accused the government of marginalization. He claimed only individuals close to Tinubu had benefitted, while other regions were sidelined.

Asked about zoning within the ADC, he said the party leadership would decide. However, he insisted his candidacy remained intact regardless of the outcome.

Amaechi described himself as the most prepared aspirant. He said his 2027 presidential bid offers unity since the South has no conflicts with other regions.

Dismissing claims that his political base in Rivers had weakened due to Nyesom Wike, Amaechi maintained strong support.

“Recently, when I visited Rivers to inaugurate the ADC, the turnout was massive from the airport to the venue, and nobody paid for that mobilisation. That should tell you where the people stand,”he said.
