Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu officially launched the Omi Eko Project Lagos, a €410 million water transportation initiative, on Friday. The project aims to deploy 78 electric ferries to transform water travel across the state.

Former Governor Babatunde Fashola (SAN) and Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, Lagos APC Chairman, joined Sanwo-Olu for the launch. The event, held at Five Cowries Terminal in Falomo, attracted government officials, development partners, and community leaders.

The Lagos government developed the Omi Eko Project in partnership with French development agencies to enhance sustainable mobility and reduce road congestion.

Damilola Emmanuel, Special Adviser on Blue Economy and General Manager of the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), described the launch as a major step toward sustainable urban transport.

“The Omi Eko Project is poised to revolutionize Lagos’s water transportation landscape by integrating innovative technology, strengthening terminal infrastructure, and championing environmental sustainability,” Emmanuel said.

He added that the project will deploy advanced systems to improve passenger experience and reduce travel time.

“With the deployment of over 78 high-capacity electric ferries, digital ticketing systems, intelligent terminals, and safety innovations, the project will significantly reduce commute times and establish a reliable, modern transportation option for millions,” he explained.
