Pop sensation Justin Timberlake revealed to his fans on Thursday that he suffers from Lyme disease, which he called “relentlessly debilitating.” With his world tour just finished, the 44-year-old former frontman of NSYNC posted a contemplative message on Instagram.
In reference to a tour that some fans accused of being unimpressive, he said, “This has been the most fun, emotional, gratifying, physically demanding, and, at times, grueling experience.”
“Among other things, I’ve been battling some health issues, and was diagnosed with Lyme disease; which I don’t say so you feel bad for me, but to shed some light on what I’ve been up against behind the scenes.
“Living with this can be relentlessly debilitating, both mentally and physically. When I first got the diagnosis I was shocked for sure. But, at least I could understand why I would be onstage and in a massive amount of nerve pain or just feeling crazy fatigue or sickness.”
The bacterium that causes Lyme disease is frequently spread by ticks that inhabit forests across North America and Europe. Muscle weakness, exhaustion, and generalized discomfort are possible symptoms. Patients may suffer from immune system, joint, and tissue damage in severe cases.

Timberlake ultimately entered a guilty plea to a lower misdemeanor and was mandated to perform community service.
