As the kingdom intensifies its preparations for hosting the 2030 World Cup in collaboration with Spain and Portugal, FIFA opened its fifth regional office in Morocco on Saturday. It is the first in North Africa.

At the opening event, FIFA president Gianni Infantino declared, “This is a day that will be written in golden letters in the magnificent history of FIFA, African football, Moroccan football, and world football.”

Patrice Motsepe, the chairman of the African Football Confederation, was also present for the opening, which was held only hours before Morocco’s match against Nigeria in the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations final in Rabat.

Morocco will host the World Cup in 2030, becoming the second African country to do so after South Africa in 2010. This comes after the kingdom’s five failed bids.

South Africa, Rwanda, Senegal, and the Republic of Congo are home to FIFA’s other African offices.
