Egypt booked their spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after defeating Djibouti 3-0 on Wednesday night at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium. The victory sealed Egypt 2026 World Cup qualification, keeping their unbeaten record intact in Group A.
Ibrahim Adel and Mohamed Salah fired Hossam Hassan’s team into an early lead, before the Liverpool star added a late goal to complete his brace. The result put Egypt five points ahead of Burkina Faso with one qualifying match left to play.
The Pharaohs entered the match determined to maintain their dominance after their 6-0 thrashing of Djibouti in November 2023. Their focus was clear from the start in Casablanca, as they took control within the opening minutes.
Adel opened the scoring in the eighth minute, heading home Zizo’s precise cross from the right. Just seven minutes later, Salah doubled the lead. The Egyptian captain sprinted onto Trezeguet’s clever pass, toe-poked the ball past onrushing goalkeeper Omar Mahamoud, and sent fans into celebration.
Egypt controlled possession and created several chances but couldn’t extend their lead before halftime. The Pharaohs applied relentless pressure in the second half, nearly scoring twice in the 68th minute when a corner hit the post.
In the closing moments, Salah completed the triumph with a composed finish. He latched onto Marwan Ateya’s defense-splitting pass in the 84th minute and slotted home his second of the night.
The result confirmed Egypt 2026 World Cup qualification with one match to spare, underlining their strength in the African qualifiers.
Coach Hossam Hassan praised his team’s discipline and urged them to stay focused ahead of the final group match.
