Ghana has officially booked its place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after defeating Comoros 1-0 in Accra on Sunday. Mohammed Kudus scored the decisive goal two minutes into the second half, sealing qualification for the Black Stars.

The victory made Ghana the sixth African nation to qualify, joining Algeria, Egypt, Morocco, and Tunisia. Kudus’ close-range finish brought redemption after Comoros had previously beaten Ghana in both the 2022 AFCON and World Cup qualifiers.

Ghana topped Group I with 25 points, ahead of Madagascar and Mali. This marks the country’s fifth World Cup appearance, with their best run coming in 2010, when they reached the quarterfinals in South Africa.

The result eased pressure on Coach Otto Addo, who faced criticism following Ghana’s poor AFCON qualifying campaign last year.

Elsewhere, Egypt edged Guinea-Bissau 1-0 without Mohamed Salah, while Niger stunned Zambia 1-0 to finish second behind Morocco. The top four second-placed teams will compete in Morocco’s November play-offs for additional qualification slots.

In other news, Nigeria’s national team safely arrived in Uyo after an emergency landing in Angola due to a cracked windscreen. The Super Eagles, currently third in Group C, can still top the group if they beat Benin and South Africa fail to win against Rwanda.

Meanwhile, South Sudan suspended coach Nicolas Dupuis after a 5-0 defeat to Senegal in Group B.
