Sorting and results are still being finalized across the state’s 57 councils, but the All Progressives Congress, or APC, is currently leading the local government polls, which ended at around 3pm.
This occurs as voter turnout is low in all councils. Speaking to reporters after casting his ballot in his Adeniji-Adele electoral ward, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu admitted the early-morning delay and attributed it to logistics.
According to reports received as of 4 p.m., the APC was in the lead in places like Adeniji-Adele, polling unit 006, St. Stevens Nursery and Primary School, where Sanwo-Olu cast his ballot, Yaba, Somolu and Bariga, Ikeja, and Agege, where the results of the elections for chairmanship and councilorship were announced.
The PDP was in second place, and the Labour Party, or LP, was in third.
Adebayo Adefuye, the APC’s candidate for chairmanship of the Yaba Local Council Development Area (LCDA), has characterized the process as free, fair, and seamless. Shortly after casting his ballot, Adefuye spoke, praising the exercise’s nonviolent conduct and calling it one of the most significant elections due to its direct connection to the grassroots.
The chairmanship candidate revealed his vision in a comprehensive plan called “Yaba tuntun,” or “New Yaba,” which he claimed represents a new beginning and a correction of previous mistakes.
Adefuye praised President Bola Tinubu for advocating for the reform and voiced his strong support for the Federal Government’s recent enforcement of local government financial autonomy.
