Iga Swiatek showed she has what it takes on grass on Saturday by crushing Amanda Anisimova 6-0, 6-0 to win her first Wimbledon title and sixth Grand Slam.
With a commanding lead from the first point and a victory in just 57 minutes, the eighth-seeded Polish player has now won all six major finals in which she has participated.
While the top seeds faltered at the All England Club, Swiatek, who advanced to the grass-court tournament final at Bad Homburg two weeks ago, has appeared to be getting stronger.
During her run to the final, she only dropped one set. However, after defeating world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the semifinals, US 13th seed Anisimova was anticipated to present a formidable challenge.
In the sweltering heat on Centre Court, Anisimova got off to a nervous start. After falling behind 2-0 in the first game, she was broken, and the situation appeared dire.
In her subsequent service game, she seemed to have settled in, but when Anisimova double-failed, the resilient Swiatek held her ground and rallied to take a 3-0 lead.
Anisimova was unable to stop the raging Swiatek, who won the first set 6-0 in just twenty-five minutes. In the first set, the American made 14 unforced errors and only managed to win six points on her serve.
Despite her best efforts, Anisimova was unable to stop the momentum in the second set. In the third game, she double-faulted once more to give her opponent game point before netting a backhand.
The audience supported her, but it was in vain because Swiatek maintained her composure, serving out to win, celebrating, and then comforting her heartbroken opponent.
