Nine-time champions Nigeria will be the most formidable rivals when the 13th Women Africa Cup of Nations finals begin in the Kingdom of Morocco. The Super Falcons, who won the first edition their nation hosted in 1998, have also won the diadem in 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2010, 2014, 2016, and 2018. They eagerly await the thirteenth edition without being cynical. The Coach Justine Madugu is confident that his team can compete on its own starting tomorrow against Tunisia.
After the Falcons easily defeated West African rivals Ghana in their final pre-tournament friendly on Sunday, Madugu said the team is very focused on their realisable and achievable target. He affirms that the girls are ready and are showing real hunger for victory and team spirit is high, as they look forward to their first match on Sunday against Tunisia
The Super Falcons’ enthusiasm have been lifted by their victories over Cameroon’s Indomitable Lionesses in Abeokuta and their scoreless draw with Portugal in previous friendlies.
A $1 million winner’s reward, the largest in the competition’s history, will also greatly inspire the Super Falcons. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) revealed on Thursday that the runners-up would receive $500,000, while the third and fourth-place clubs would receive $350,000 and $300,000, respectively.
