After 10 years in north London, Son Heung-min, the captain of Tottenham, announced on Saturday that he will be leaving the team this summer. After moving to the Premier League from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015, the 33-year-old forward played more than 450 games for Spurs. He won the Europa League title in May, but he suffered with a string of leg injuries and had a miserable season overall by his high standards.

The South Korean informed reporters in Seoul, where Tottenham is on a preseason tour, before the press conference began, “Before we start the press conference I wanted to say I have decided to leave the club this summer. Respectfully, the club is helping me with this decision.”

Son, who has scored 173 goals for Spurs, cut an emotional figure and did not specify his future plans. He has been connected to a transfer to the US Major League Soccer league.

“Such amazing memories. It was so hard to make the decision.

With Thomas Frank, the new Tottenham manager, by his side, Son remarked, “It was the most difficult decision I have made in my career” “I need to challenge myself in a new setting.

“I need a new environment to push myself. I need a little bit of change, 10 years is a long time. I came to north London as a kid, 23 years old, such a young age. “I leave this club as a grown man, a very proud man.”

Son stated in Korean that winning a European title, Tottenham’s first in forty-one years, was “a big part” of his thoughts.

“Winning a title in Europe felt like I had achieved everything I possibly could,” he remarked. “I spent a lot of time reflecting on whether I wanted to experience football in a different environment, and I had those conversations with myself over and over again.”

Frank, who moved from Brentford to Spurs in June, honored the South Korean captain. He said, “For me, personally, I would have loved to have worked with this fantastic person and player,” “He is a true Spurs legend in every aspect, one of the greatest players to play in the Premier League.”

Son Heung-min is certain of a thunderous greeting in front of his home supporters when Spurs play Newcastle United in Seoul on Sunday.
