The Lagos State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, in partnership with international education organisation Darsel, has honoured outstanding students and schools that excelled in the Darsel Learn by Text Mathematics Initiative.

The programme, which leverages artificial intelligence to boost mathematics proficiency, engaged over 30,000 junior secondary school students across the state during the 2024/2025 academic year.

Speaking at the award ceremony, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mrs. Dokumu-Adegbite, emphasized the initiative’s broader impact beyond academics, highlighting its role in addressing societal challenges through technology-driven learning.

She urged principals and teachers to strengthen collaboration within schools and encouraged students to remain committed to personal and academic development.

Darsel’s Country Implementation Partner, Mrs. Wunmi Tolu-Alalade, described the initiative as a transformative programme aimed at improving students’ math performance and the overall quality of education in Lagos. She called for continued support from all levels of government to sustain and expand the initiative.

Kareem Aishat Olamide of Isasi Junior Grammar School, District 5, emerged as the overall best student, while Olabiyi Ooreoluwa Glory of Ojodu Junior Grammar School, District 6, and Quadri Suleton Ajadi of Iba Housing Estate Junior Secondary School, District 5, came second and third respectively.

In the schools category, Ojodu Junior Grammar School secured first place, followed by Dr. Lucas Memorial Junior High School and Isasi Junior Grammar School. Several district champions were also recognised for their outstanding contributions.

Organisers reaffirmed their commitment to the initiative, which runs annually from the beginning to the end of each academic session, promoting technology-based learning and academic excellence across Lagos State.
