Chinese authorities have arrested a 38-year-old man identified as Jiao, who allegedly posed as a woman under the alias Sister Hong to secretly record sexual encounters with hundreds of unsuspecting men. The videos were reportedly sold online, sparking national outrage and prompting a widespread investigation.

Jiao, who also went by Uncle Red on Chinese platforms, allegedly used wigs, makeup, and women’s clothing to lure victims through dating apps and social media. He reportedly installed hidden cameras in his Nanjing residence and sometimes altered his voice to deceive his targets.

According to police, the illicit recordings were distributed through private online groups for a subscription fee of 150 yuan (approximately $21). Though initial reports claimed that over 1,600 victims were involved, authorities have not confirmed the number, stating that investigations are ongoing.

The case; dubbed the “Nanjing Sister Hong Incident,” has gone viral on Chinese social media, generating over 200 million views on Weibo alone. While some have reacted with memes and parody content, others raised alarm over the re-circulation of unblurred explicit videos online, which has led to the public identification of several victims and reported marital breakdowns.

Authorities have warned that sharing the material is a serious violation of privacy rights. The Nanjing CDC has offered free health screenings to those affected, although no official statement has been made about possible health concerns due to patient confidentiality laws.

Jiao was officially detained on July 5 and is currently facing charges of producing and distributing obscene content. Additional charges related to privacy violations are expected.
