The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested Prophet Adefolusho Aanu Olasele, founder of The Turn of Mercy Church, for allegedly trafficking cannabis from Ghana to Nigeria via waterways.

NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi said Olasele, also known as Abbas Ajakaiye, was apprehended on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at his church in Okun Ajah, Lekki, after operatives monitored his movements throughout the day.

The arrest follows the interception of two cannabis consignments linked to the cleric; 200kg seized at Okun Ajah beach on June 4 and 700kg recovered from a delivery van on July 6. Olasele reportedly admitted to smuggling the drugs from Ghana and evading arrest twice in the past.

In related operations across Nigeria, NDLEA operatives seized thousands of kilograms of skunk, hundreds of thousands of opioid pills, and large quantities of tramadol in Lagos, Nasarawa, Kano, Gombe, and Edo States. Several suspects, including transporters and dealers, were also arrested.

NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended the successful raids and urged officers to maintain pressure on drug syndicates through the agency’s War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) programme.
