Simon Ekpa has been sentenced to six years in prison by a Finnish court for terrorism-related crimes. The pro-Biafra agitator was convicted by the Päijät-Häme district court on Monday.

Judges found him guilty of inciting terrorism and supporting terrorist groups.

According to Finnish outlet Yle, Ekpa used his large social media following to inflame tensions in southeast Nigeria between August 2021 and November 2024. The court ruled that he played a central role in a militant separatist group seeking to create a Biafra state.

The court also said Simon Ekpa encouraged followers on X to commit crimes in Nigeria. He reportedly provided firearms, explosives, and ammunition through his contacts.

In addition, Simon Ekpa was convicted of severe tax fraud and violating the Attorneys Act. The three-judge panel ruled unanimously that he acted as a key figure in the separatist movement.
