Paris Saint-Germain defeated Tottenham Hotspur 4-3 on penalties on Wednesday, following a thrilling 2-2 draw at the Stadio Friuli in Udine, to win their first-ever UEFA Super Cup.

Cristian Romero’s goal in the 48th minute of the 2nd half and Micky van de Ven’s goal in the 39th minute gave Spurs a 2-0 lead in their first competitive game under new coach Thomas Frank, giving them the appearance of winning.

However, the tide was turned by PSG’s substitutes, as Lee Kang-in pulled one back in the 85th minute and Goncalo Ramos headed in the equalizer deep into stoppage time.

Vitinha missed to give PSG a bad start to the shootout, but Lucas Chevalier, the new goalie, stopped Van de Ven’s attempt, and Mathys Tel missed for Spurs.

Nuno Mendes buried the game-winning penalty after PSG’s Ramos, Ousmane Dembele, and Lee scored goals. Pedro Porro, Rodrigo Bentancur, and Dominic Solanke all gave Spurs points in vain.

Luis Enrique’s young team has already won five trophies in 2025, including their first Champions League title in May after a record-breaking 5-0 final thumping of Inter Milan, which was led by teenage sensation Desire Doue.

The victory completes an incredible year for the team. Spurs host Burnley in their Premier League debut on Saturday, while PSG now focus on their Ligue 1 opener against Nantes on Sunday.
