Nigeria and Brazil signed a bilateral air service agreement (BASA) to deepen economic, cultural, and diplomatic ties. Tunde Moshood, Special Adviser on Media and Communications to the Aviation Minister, announced the deal on Monday.
The signing took place during President Bola Tinubu’s two-day visit to Brazil. Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva received Tinubu, who led senior cabinet members.
Moshood confirmed that the memorandum of understanding (MoU) formalized direct flights between Nigeria and Brazil. Nigeria’s Aviation Minister, Festus Keyamo SAN, and Brazil’s Transport Minister, Silvio Costa Filho, signed the agreement in the presence of both presidents.
The statement said, “The BASA establishes a new framework for direct air connectivity between Nigeria and Brazil, opening fresh avenues for trade, tourism, investment, and people-to-people exchanges.
“It is expected to foster stronger economic integration, facilitate cultural ties, and enhance diplomatic cooperation between both nations”
Moshood described the deal as a milestone. He said it proves the Tinubu administration’s commitment to expanding global partnerships and improving mobility.
Brazil’s president praised the agreement. He pledged to strengthen ties with Nigeria in aviation, agriculture, and infrastructure.
During his visit, Tinubu will also meet leaders of Brazil’s Senate, Chamber of Deputies, and Supreme Federal Court. The trip continues with high-level meetings between Nigerian and Brazilian delegations. Both sides remain committed to mutual growth and prosperity.
