The Federal Government launched a digital portal to create a credible Nigerian teachers’ database, streamline licensing, and promote professionalism.

The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) developed the platform in partnership with the UK-funded Partnership for Learning for All in Nigeria.

Prof. Suwaiba Ahmad, Minister of State for Education, inaugurated the portal in Abuja on Monday. She described it as a new chapter for teacher management.

“Today, we are not just unveiling a portal,” Ahmad said. “We are opening a chapter where technology drives teacher professionalism in Nigeria.”

She explained that the portal will enable seamless registration and licensing. It will also provide a transparent teachers’ database, real-time training access, and stronger accountability.

“In a digital world where nations compete with skills and creativity, Nigeria must not be left behind,” she added.

Ahmad emphasized that modern tools are vital for building the future of education in Nigeria.

Ian Attfield, Senior Education Adviser at the British High Commission, praised the initiative. He highlighted the importance of teacher training and motivation.

“There are many types of teachers; community teachers, volunteers in faith-based schools, and those in low-cost private schools. Many remain unqualified,” Attfield said.

He stressed that diversity in the sector requires integrated, intelligent, and motivated systems.

Attfield confirmed that the UK government, through the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office, will continue to support Nigeria’s education reforms.
