The England international Jack Grealish has completed a season-long loan transfer from Manchester City to Everton for the 2025-26 season, which is viewed as a new beginning for him.
The 29-year-old winger made just seven Premier League starts and had a disappointing season at City, losing favor with Pep Guardiola. He did not make the Club World Cup squad and watched from the sidelines as City fell short against Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final.
Grealish has had a trophy-filled year in Manchester, winning three Premier League titles, the FA Cup, and the Champions League since joining City from Aston Villa in 2021 for a then-British record fee of £100 million.
However, following his crucial contribution to the team’s 2022-2023 treble-winning season, his form drastically declined. Concerns regarding his focus and fitness were also raised by off-field headlines about his lifestyle.
Grealish was given the No. 18 shirt by Everton, who are currently playing at their new Hill Dickinson Stadium, in remembrance of his childhood heroes, former Everton greats Wayne Rooney and Paul Gascoigne.
The winger disclosed that he had a conversation with Rooney prior to joining, and that he felt immediately at home after reading the encouraging posts from Everton supporters on social media.
He said, “I’m over the moon to have signed for Everton; it’s massive for me, honestly. This is a great club, with great fans”
“As soon as I spoke to the manager, I knew there was only one place I wanted to go,”
“On social media, I’ve been flooded with messages from Everton supporters, so there’s that side of it as well and that’s another reason why I chose Everton.
“I want to say thank you to the fans for all of the messages I’ve had already. Thank you for all of the love and support. I hope I can repay you now and I’m sure I will.”
After a quiet transfer window under manager David Moyes, Jack Grealish is Everton’s biggest summer acquisition.
Moyes stated, “I believe we’re getting him at a good time because he’s experienced.” “he understands the Premier League and we’re all fully aware of the levels he’s capable of performing to”
“I know Jack’s ambition is to get back into the England squad, so hopefully we can help him achieve that over the course of the season.
“We welcome Jack to Everton and we’re very pleased to have him on board,” Moyes remarked.
