In the Lagos State local government election on Saturday, July 12, 2025, the All Progressives Congress (APC) won a landslide victory, taking home all 20 chairmanship seats and 375 of the 376 councillorship positions in the state.

According to the results released by the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) on Sunday, the PDP only won one councillorship seat, Ward D in the Yaba Local Council Development Area (LCDA).

The elections were held across 13,325 polling places to choose chairmen and council members for the state’s 20 local government areas (LGAs) and 37 local council development areas (LCDAs).

The state electoral commission reports that 15 of the 19 registered political parties sent candidates.

The APC’s victory, according to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, is a testament to the people of Lagos’ faith in the party’s leadership and grassroots development program.

The governor congratulated the APC, its leaders, and its supporters on the results of the state-wide election in a statement released on Sunday.

“I have received with joy and gratitude the news of the resounding victory of our candidates in the local government elections held across Lagos State on Saturday, July 12, 2025,”

“This outcome is a clear affirmation of the trust and confidence that the good people of Lagos have in the APC’s vision, leadership, and unwavering commitment to inclusive development at the grassroots.” Sanwo-Olu stated.

Sanwo-Olu claimed the victory belonged to the state’s citizens while praising the voters for their turnout.  “Indeed, this victory belongs to the people of Lagos. It reflects your belief in our shared goals and your support for continuity, progress, and people-centred governance,” he said.

Reminding the elected chairmen and council members that their mandate entails serving all citizens, not just party loyalists, he commended them.
