The Federal Government has ordered all tertiary institutions to return unused TETFund allocations within 30 days.
Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, issued the directive on Thursday in Abuja during a meeting with institutional heads.
He said many schools leave TETFund resources idle despite urgent campus infrastructure needs.
Alausa directed institutions to submit reconciled reports of all unused funds within the given period.
He warned that the government will redirect unspent funds to other priority projects if schools fail to comply.
The minister urged institutions to align procurement plans with approved projects and speed up their approval processes.
He also introduced new capacity-building programs to strengthen compliance and project management across all schools.
Mentorship initiatives will help institutions plan better and improve their financial accountability.
Quarterly reviews will now track progress, while schools that waste funds will face strict sanctions.
Alausa said the ministry will launch a public dashboard showing how schools receive and use TETFund allocations.
Each institution must also publish project updates to promote transparency and public trust.
“TETFund must enforce compliance and maintain professionalism,” Alausa said. “Institutional leaders must act with urgency and integrity.”
He urged bursars, procurement officers, and project coordinators to plan carefully and report regularly.
According to him, every TETFund naira represents public trust and must deliver visible impact.
The directive follows repeated warnings from TETFund over growing unspent allocations in many tertiary institutions.
In July 2025, the agency threatened to withdraw funding from schools that fail to access or use their allocations.
Earlier this year, TETFund disbursed ₦1.6 trillion for infrastructure, campus security, and healthcare across Nigerian tertiary institutions.
