Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna, was expelled by the Social Democratic Party’s (SDP) National Working Committee (NWC) and prohibited from participating in any party activity for 30 years. El-Rufai reportedly fabricated paperwork to back his fake claim of membership without registering in his ward, according to a statement made in Abuja by Araba Rufus Aiyenigba, the National Publicity Secretary.
Additionally, the SDP accused him of trying to force the SDP into an illegal partnership by dividing the party, pushing the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and manipulating internal procedures.
“El-Rufai never registered with the Social Democratic Party at his ward level as required by the party’s constitution, yet falsely declared on social media that he had joined the party, according to Aiyenigba.
“He further forged documents claiming membership and took pictures with suspended party leaders to reinforce this falsehood”.
Additionally, the Social Democratic Party accused him of seeking to entice the SDP into an unlawful political alliance by allying with the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
“Having confirmed that he publicly declared for the ADC and continued to act in a manner contrary to the principles and practices of the SDP, the party has no option but to disassociate and excommunicate him”, SDP said.
“Consequently, El-Rufai has been banished and banned from applying to the membership, identifying with the name, insignia, logo, or participating in any affairs of the SDP for a period of 30 years, effective immediately”.
