Mallam Nasiru El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, has been disowned by the Social Democratic Party (SDP), which claims he is not a member of the party and is not permitted to speak or act on its behalf. At a press briefing on Friday in Kaduna, SDP Zonal Secretary, North-West Zone, Inuwa Idris, revealed the information.
“It has come to our attention that Malam Nasir El-Rufai as taken it upon himself to appear in various fora, including policy dialogues, stakeholder engagements, and even private strategy meetings purporting to speak on behalf of the Social Democratic Party (SDP),” Idris stated.
“Let this be made unequivocally clear to all: Malam El-Rufai is not authorised, mandated, or recognised by the SDP in any capacity to represent its interests, articulate its positions, or speak on its behalf.
” His actions were carried out entirely without the knowledge, consent, or approval of the party’s national leadership-including our dynamic acting National Chairman, Dr Sadiq Umar, among others.”
He emphasized that El-Rufai had never taken part in the party’s programs, was not included in any of its membership records, and had never received an appointment or directive to represent the party at any level.
Idris reiterated the party’s 2023 presidential candidate Prince Adewole Adebayo, Umar, and National Secretary Chief Olu Agunloye’s leadership. He cautioned the public and interested parties to ignore whatever remarks El-Rufai made while representing the Social Democratic Party (SDP). The party has maintained an open system of official communication and delegation, the secretary explained.
Idris went on to say that the party’s officially endorsed representatives, whose names will be disclosed upon request, must be used for any future interactions, policy debates, or cooperative projects.
