On Monday, social media was dominated by rumors that Asisat Oshoala, a forward for the Super Falcons, had declared her retirement from international football.
According to reports, Oshoala made the decision to hang up her boots before Tuesday’s Women’s African Cup of Nations semifinal matchup against South Africa. Colin Udoh, a former Super Eagles media officer, has since refuted those rumors.
“Everything was sketchy from the beginning” Udoh stated in a video posted on his X page.
“Asisat is too smart to make that announcement the day before a decisive game for Nigeria at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
“And it wasn’t on her official pages either.
“When it’s time for Asisat to announce her retirement, she will do it in a much smarter way.
“So, whatever you’ve seen today, it is a rumour. Ignore it.”
