The All Progressives Congress’s (APC) Princess Adesola Elegbeji has been proclaimed the victor of Saturday’s bye-election for Ogun State’s Ikenne, Sagamu, and Remo North Federal Constituency by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The INEC held the first bye-election in Ogun State since democracy was restored.

Otunba Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga, also known as Ijaya, the Deputy Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, passed away, leaving the Remo Federal Constituency vacant.

After a lengthy illness, the late APC Representative passed away on January 15, 2025

However, Prof. Kazeem Olajide Bello, the Returning Officer, announced the final results at the INEC collation center in Ikenne. She stated that Elegbeji received 41,237 votes, defeating her closest opponent, the candidate from the Peoples Democratic Party, who received 14,324 votes. 289 votes went to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

“By the powers conferred on me , having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of valid votes cast, I hereby declared Adesola Ayoola Elegbeji as the winner,” said Prof. Kazeem as he announced the winner in the early hours of Sunday.
