President Bola Tinubu will travel to Jos, Plateau State, on Saturday for the funeral of Mama Lydia Yilwatda Goshwe. His Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed this in Abuja on Friday.

Onanuga said, “President Tinubu will depart Lagos for Jos to attend the funeral prayers in honour of Nana Lydia Yilwatda Goshwe.” He explained that Mama Lydia was the mother of Professor Nentawe Yilwatda Goshwe, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

At the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) headquarters in Jos, Tinubu will also meet church leaders from the North. After these engagements, the President will return to Lagos the same day.

Tinubu had earlier condoled with Professor Yilwatda after his mother’s death at 83. Describing Mama Lydia, he said, “A woman of virtue who lived a life dedicated to faith, service, and community.” The President urged the APC Chairman to take solace in her legacy, accept the loss as God’s will, and prayed for her soul to rest.

Mama Lydia’s death came months after Yilwatda became APC’s National Chairman in July. Tinubu’s visit also follows his strong condemnation of recurring violence in Plateau State.

Earlier this year, he denounced killings in Bassa Local Government Area where over 50 people died and homes were destroyed. He offered condolences to Governor Caleb Mutfwang and urged leaders to break cycles of violence.

Tinubu emphasized, “Love and unity must rise above religious and ethnic divisions.” He called for strong political will to bring peace to Plateau communities.
