President Bola Tinubu has ordered a temporary ban on raw shea nut export, effective immediately.
Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President, announced the directive in Abuja on Tuesday through an official statement.
Nkwocha said Vice-President Kashim Shettima is presiding over an implementation meeting with key stakeholders to enforce the Presidential order.
The move signals a shift in Nigeria’s approach to the shea industry. By halting raw shea nut exports, the government seeks to encourage local processing, promote value addition, and boost employment.
Industry experts believe the directive could help Nigeria capture more value from the growing global shea butter market across industries.
Although the government has not released details, officials will share more on the policy’s implementation framework after the meeting.
