The Gombe State Command of the Nigerian Police Force has confirmed the tragic death of a teenage boy found lifeless in a gully at Hayin Kwarin Misau Quarters, following a heavy rainfall on Monday.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Buhari Abdullahi, a distress call was received around 6:30 a.m. by the Officer-in-Charge of the Hayin Kwari Misau outstation, reporting the discovery of a body in a gully filled by the downpour.

“Our officers responded immediately and visited the scene,” Abdullahi said. “A preliminary assessment revealed no visible signs of violence or physical injury. We suspect he may have drowned as a result of the heavy rainfall recorded the previous night.”

The teenage boy, believed to be about 15 years old, had no form of identification on him at the time of recovery. His remains were transported to the Gombe Specialist Hospital, where a medical officer officially confirmed his death.

Police detectives documented the scene with photographs and have launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the incident. “We are doing everything possible to identify the deceased and locate his relatives,” Abdullahi added.

The police have urged members of the public to assist in identifying the victim and providing any relevant information. “We appeal to residents who may have useful information to report to the nearest police station,” the PPRO said.

The incident underscores growing concerns about gully erosion and flood risks in parts of Gombe State, particularly during the rainy season.
