Former Kaduna Central Senator Shehu Sani has condemned Donald Trump’s threat to deploy U.S. troops to Nigeria over alleged Christian genocide.

Trump, in a post on Truth Social, said the United States “may very well go into that now disgraced country, guns-a-blazing, to completely wipe out the Islamic terrorists.”

Reacting on X, Shehu Sani criticized Donald Trump, rejecting his description of Nigeria as a “disgraced country.” He said the comment insulted the nation’s dignity and ignored its proud history.

“Someday we will all be gone. Future generations will read our posts and question our stance on urgent, controversial issues.

“I want history to record me among those who outrightly opposed, rejected, and unreservedly condemned any act of Mr. Trump’s foreign military aggression against my country under any guise, disguise, or excuse,” Sani wrote.

Sani rejected the “disgraced country” tag, stressing that Nigeria has never colonized or invaded any nation.

“My country is not a ‘disgraced country’ and will never be a ‘disgraced country,’” he said. “Anyone proud of their motherland will never accept such a label.”

He added: “We are not a nation that has ever colonised, enslaved, or invaded others, nor dropped bombs or killed millions”

While defending Nigeria, Sani admitted the nation has faced serious security issues for over 16 years. He urged the government to strengthen national defense and welcomed international assistance that respects Nigeria’s sovereignty.

“Nigeria welcomes support to help our security forces defeat terrorists,” he said. “Our government must increase efforts to safeguard our nation, the only one we can live in without a visa.”

He emphasized that as a democrat, he respected differing views but would never endorse foreign military interference.
