Godswill Akpabio, the president of the Senate, returned home Monday morning after what he described as a brief visit to London. Rumors that he was seriously ill and sent to a foreign hospital have been confirmed by his return.
Akpabio went to London after attending the Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament in Geneva from July 29 to July 31. His absence sparked speculation that he was battling a serious health issue.
After landing at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja at approximately 4:00 a.m., the Senate President arrived at the Presidential Wing encircled by senators, aides, and supporters, according to a statement issued by his media assistant Jackson Udom.
Speaking to reporters upon his arrival, Akpabio denied the rumors and promised Nigerians a more ambitious legislative agenda when the Senate reconvenes.
“We are ready for robust legislative engagements on resumption,”he was cited as adding
“In support of Nigeria’s strong delegation’s attendance at the Inter-Parliamentary Union session in Geneva. Nigerians should anticipate ‘more derivatives of democratic governance’ and effective collaboration with the other arms of government,” he added.
