Following his travels to Brazil and Saint Lucia, President Bola Tinubu has returned to Nigeria.

In a post on X on Sunday morning, Bayo Onanuga, the president’s special adviser on information and strategy, stated that Ibrahim Masari, a leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC); Aliyu Wamakko, a former governor of Sokoto; Bello Matawalle, the defense minister; and Nuhu Ribadu, the national security adviser, welcomed Tinubu at the presidential wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport in Abuja.

The president began a diplomatic tour of South America and the Caribbean in June, involving two countries. Tinubu’s state visit to Saint Lucia, according to the presidency, was “part of efforts to deepen Nigeria’s engagement with Caribbean nation.”

The president spoke to a special joint session of the parliament of Saint Lucia while he was there.  The highest honor in the nation, the title of Knight Commander of the Order of Saint Lucia (KCOSL), was also bestowed upon Tinubu by the Saint Lucian government.

In order to attend the 17th BRICS summit, the president then traveled to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.  Nigeria participated in the meeting as a “partner country,” which is superior to a guest country, according to Onanuga.

The presidential aide claims that the designation demonstrates the growing recognition of Nigeria’s strategic importance within the bloc.  Tinubu said in his summit speech that low-income and emerging economies ought to be included in international systems and given equitable treatment.
