The Nigeria Police Force says it has not yet received the Federal High Court order stopping tinted-glass permit enforcement.

Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, revealed this on Saturday in a post on X. He reacted to reports claiming the court had restrained police from arresting motorists with tinted windows.

According to him, the police have not been formally served with the ruling and therefore cannot act on it yet.

“While we have not been officially served the court order you’re referencing, let me show point number eight,” Hundeyin wrote.

He added that the public should read the full order instead of focusing only on excerpts.

“Nigerians deserve the complete picture, not a skewed one,” he stated.

Hundeyin’s clarification followed claims by human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong, who circulated portions of the judgment on social media.

On Friday, the Federal High Court in Warri, Delta State, directed the police to suspend tinted-glass permit enforcement.

The ruling came in the case John Aikpokpo-Martins v. Inspector-General of Police & Nigeria Police Force (Suit No. FHC/WR/CS/103/2025).

Justice ordered the police to maintain the status quo pending determination of the substantive suit.

The police had reintroduced the tinted-glass permit in April 2023 under the Police Specialised Services Automation Project.

Earlier, the same policy was suspended in 2022 after complaints about poor implementation and extortion.

The initiative aimed to regulate tinted vehicles and curb crimes such as kidnapping and armed robbery.

However, many motorists criticized the process, describing it as exploitative and open to abuse.

As of Saturday, enforcement remains uncertain until the police officially receive and acknowledge the court order.
