Business mogul and Chairman of Mutual Benefits Assurance, Akin Ogunbiyi, has declared his intention to contest the 2026 governorship election in Osun State under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Ogunbiyi made his declaration on Thursday at the Osun APC Secretariat in Osogbo, where he was accompanied by hundreds of supporters from across the state. He expressed confidence in his chances of clinching the Osun APC ticket, describing himself as a “unifying factor” for the party.

“My chances of winning the ticket are bright. I enjoy massive support across the state. Today’s turnout confirms that,” he said.

Akin Ogunbiyi emphasized that all aspirants within the APC fold are united by a common goal: to unseat the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2026.

“We have agreed to work together, and whoever emerges as the party’s candidate, we will all support them,” he added.

The businessman, who previously ran under the PDP, officially joined the APC with over 1,200 supporters, a move confirmed by the state APC Secretary, Kamoru Olabisi. Olabisi assured that the party would intensify efforts to win the upcoming election and prepare ahead for the 2027 general elections.

Ogunbiyi also used the occasion to encourage voter registration among young people, urging eligible residents to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the polls.
