NiDCOM (Nigerians in Diaspora Commission) has condemned the brutal killing of two Nigerian traders, Austin and Ayo, by masked gunmen in Durban, South Africa, describing the incident as “senseless and intolerable.”
NiDCOM Chairman/CEO, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, in a statement by the agency’s spokesperson, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, disclosed that the Nigerian High Commission in South Africa is actively investigating the matter.
She expressed frustration over South Africa’s failure to fully implement the early warning mechanism designed to prevent such tragic events.
According to unconfirmed reports, the victims were shot at close range in Austin’s office, leading to immediate fatalities. The attack has sparked growing tension within the Nigerian community in South Africa.
Dabiri-Erewa extended condolences to the victims’ families and urged calm, stressing that NiDCOM and the Acting Nigerian High Commissioner has demanded a thorough and impartial investigation from South African authorities.
She appealed to Nigerians in South Africa not to resort to violence as the case is being pursued through diplomatic channels.
