In response to the Federal Government’s claim that the strike had been called off, the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) has said that their industrial action is still in progress. The association has canceled its warning strike, the Federal Government informed reporters through Prof. Ali Pate, Minister of Health and Social Welfare.
Following a private meeting with the NANNM leadership in Abuja on Friday, Pate told reporters that the decision was made in accordance with agreements made between the organization and the government.
However, Morakinyo Rilwan, the National Chairman of NANNM, denied that the strike had been canceled. “If it was the Minister who organised the strike, then he could call it off,” Rilwan stated.
“As far as I’m concerned, the strike organised by the association is still ongoing. “The Minister didn’t organise the strike, so he doesn’t have the authority to call it off. “There are procedures to follow if it is to be called off at all.”
