The Senator Nenadi Usman-led faction of the Labour Party (LP) has strongly denied reports suggesting it is planning to mobilize a one-million-man march against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration or engage in any plot to topple the government.

The faction, in a statement issued by Ken Asogwa, the Senior Special Adviser (Media) to Senator Usman, said the allegations stemmed from a “malicious petition” purportedly authored by Abayomi Arabambi, whom they accuse of impersonating the LP spokesperson.

According to the statement, Arabambi falsely claimed that several high-profile LP members, including Peter Obi, Comrade Joe Ajaero, Senator Victor Umeh, Prof. Theophilus Ndubuaku, and Dr. Yunusa Tanko, were planning a violent uprising masked as a protest to reclaim the party’s former secretariat in Abuja.

“The Labour Party is not aware of any planned protest under its name and has not sanctioned any such activity,” the statement read.

The faction clarified that the property in question had been abandoned long ago following a Supreme Court ruling in April 2025, which affirmed Nenadi Usman’s leadership. It stressed that the party has since relocated to a new, secure headquarters.

Condemning the coup allegations as “reckless and dangerous,” the faction said it was “deeply suspicious” of the intentions behind linking a peaceful protest to a plot to destabilize the government.

The LP further raised concerns over reported harassment of its key officials by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), warning against the revival of tactics reminiscent of Nigeria’s military past.

“This is not merely a reckless lie, it is a dangerous and desperate attempt to frame up respected leaders of the Labour Party in a phony plot to destabilise the nation,” the faction stated.

The group called on security agencies to investigate the claims thoroughly and expose the real motive behind what it called a “sinister agenda” aimed at stoking fear and political unrest.
