The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has extended the  admission deadline for federal universities for the 2025-2026 academic session.

JAMB spokesperson Fabian Benjamin said the decision followed the National Universities Commission’s (NUC) approval of 229 new academic programs on October 29 and appeals from the Association of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (AVCNU).

“Admissions into those programmes are just being scheduled,” JAMB stated.

Earlier this year, at the JAMB policy meeting that brought together all heads of postsecondary institutions, stakeholders agreed on fixed timelines for admissions.

Federal universities had to conclude admissions by October 31, while private universities faced a November 30 deadline. Authorities set a December 31 deadline for polytechnics and colleges of education.

This schedule was based on appeals from polytechnics and colleges, which argued that they typically receive applicants only after universities finish their admissions.

JAMB announced that the new JAMB admission deadline for both federal and state universities is now Monday, November 17. The deadlines for other institutions remain unchanged.

JAMB said: “AVCNU appealed for an extension after disruptions, including a court order that paused the 2025/26 admission list until October 28”

The board thanked institutions for their cooperation but warned that this will be the last adjustment.
