The Israeli military on Thursday said its air force intercepted a missile launched from Yemen, claiming it was a hypersonic ballistic missile targeting Ben Gurion Airport.
In a statement on Telegram, the Israel Defense Forces confirmed the interception, saying it successfully neutralised the projectile before it reached Israeli airspace.
Huthi military spokesman Yahya Saree later claimed responsibility, announcing that the group had launched a “Palestine 2 hypersonic ballistic missile” in retaliation for Israel’s actions in Gaza.
The Iran-backed Huthis have repeatedly targeted Israel with missiles and drones since Hamas’s October 2023 attack sparked the Gaza war. While they paused hostilities during a two-month Gaza ceasefire that ended in March, they resumed strikes after Israel restarted major operations.
Israel has responded with multiple airstrikes on Huthi-held areas in Yemen, including ports and the Sanaa airport, as regional tensions continue to escalate.
