The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced a four-day extension for the ongoing ward-level Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

INEC made the decision during its Third Quarterly Meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners on Tuesday. The meeting reviewed ongoing electoral activities, including the progress of the voter registration campaign.

According to a statement issued by Victoria Eta-Messi, Director of Voter Education and Publicity, the registration exercise will now close on Sunday, October 12, 2025, instead of October 8.

“Following the review, the Commission approved a four-day extension of the ongoing Ward-level CVR exercise in the FCT,” the statement read.

“Consequently, the exercise which was earlier scheduled to end today, Wednesday, 8th October 2025, will now continue until Sunday, 12th October 2025.”

The INEC voter registration extension followed strong participation by residents. As of October 7, 2025, the Commission recorded 55,346 new voter registrations; including 38,528 online pre-registrations and 16,818 completed physical registrations.

INEC said the impressive turnout highlights growing civic awareness among residents and the success of bringing registration closer to communities.

The Commission reaffirmed that online pre-registration remains suspended in the FCT to ensure all applicants complete their registration in person.

“As earlier announced, the online pre-registration option in the FCT remains suspended to enable all pre-registrants to complete their registration in person at the designated centres.

“This measure ensures the validity of their records in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022,” Eta-Messi stated.

INEC urged all eligible citizens who have not registered to take advantage of the extended period. It also encouraged existing voters to use the window to transfer their registration within or into the FCT.

However, the Commission warned citizens against multiple registrations, calling it a punishable offence under Nigerian law.

INEC also assured residents that the list of registration centers remains available on its official website and social media pages.

The FCT Area Council elections will hold on Saturday, February 21, 2026.
