The Federal Government has approved the promotion of 30 senior officers of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) to the rank of Assistant Controller-General of Corrections, in a move aligning with ongoing reforms in the service.

The announcement was made in a statement signed by NCoS spokesperson Umar Abubakar, on Tuesday.

According to Abubakar, the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) approved the promotions as part of its commitment to merit-based advancement, professional excellence, and leadership development.

“Among the newly promoted officers are twenty-seven general duty officers and three professionals in Medical Laboratory Science, Nursing, and Public Health,” the statement noted.

The promotion exercise is part of the broader institutional reforms under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, driven by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, whose leadership was described as “unwavering and unprecedented.”

Controller-General of Corrections, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, congratulated the newly promoted officers and urged them to embrace their new roles with renewed commitment.

“These promotions are not just rewards but calls to higher responsibility in line with global best practices in correctional management,” Nwakuche said.

He also emphasized the need for enhanced service delivery, strategic leadership, and fulfillment of the service’s core mandates; reformation, rehabilitation, and reintegration of inmates.
