Bamidele Akingboye, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate in the 2024 Ondo governorship election, has died.
His aide, Oyeniyi Iwakun, announced Wednesday that Akingboye passed away earlier at his Victoria Garden City residence in Lagos.
“Akingboye’s integrity, humility, and generosity defined his life. He inspired many as a successful businessman and mentor,” the statement read.
He leaves behind wives, children, grandchildren, and siblings. The family urged privacy, noting burial details will follow.
Bamidele Akingboye contested the 2024 Ondo election but lost to incumbent APC governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
After the poll, he and the SDP rejected the results, citing irregularities, harassment of agents, and voter intimidation.
Akingboye personally denounced the exercise as fraudulent and urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to cancel the election.
