Dino Melaye, a former senator from Kogi West, has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party, claiming that the party is unable to lead with credibility and offer Nigerians with effective government.  Melaye announced his immediate departure from all party activities in a resignation letter posted on his official X account on Thursday, July 4, 2025, sent to the PDP chairman in Ward 1, Aiyetoro Gbede, Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The letter partly read,

“I hereby tender my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party at all levels of involvement.

“This decision has become imperative due to the lack of potency and capacity by the party to deliver the Nigerian people from the prevailing political cankerworms that have eaten deeply into the fabric of our dear nation.”

Dino Melaye, who previously ran for governor of Kogi State in 2023 as the PDP’s candidate, said he made the choice after giving careful thought to the party’s present situation and future direction.

“Having carefully reflected on the state of the party, I can no longer in good conscience participate in the activities of the parties or lend my support to her agenda”, the letter went on.

Additionally, he asked that his resignation be interpreted as an official and complete disengagement from all tiers and institutions of the party. During his last remarks, Melaye conveyed his appreciation for the chance to serve under the party’s program while he was a member.

The letter ended, “Thank you for the opportunity to serve under the platform during my period of membership,”
