Dele Alli, a former Tottenham midfielder, is considering retiring at the age of 29 after manager Cesc Fabregas excluded him from Como’s 2025-2026 plans. After Alli left Spurs in 2021, his career has taken a sharp turn for the worst.

After failing to make an impression at Everton, he had a dismal loan at Besiktas. He was sent off after only ten minutes of his debut for a dangerous challenge on Ruben Loftus-Cheek, quickly ruining a fresh start at Como earlier this year. The Italian team hasn’t used him since.

Gazzetta dello Sport claims that Dele Alli is currently “banished” from Fabregas’ group and has been training away from the first team. Retirement is now being seriously considered because few teams are apparently interested.

When Tottenham finished second in the Premier League in 2016-17, the England international scored 18 goals and shone. However, his health and form deteriorated, and former manager José Mourinho was shown in Tottenham’s All or Nothing documentary cautioning him that he would “regret” not reaching his full potential.

Alli disclosed a history of childhood suffering, including sexual assault, and acknowledged his addiction to sleeping pills in an emotional 2023 interview with Gary Neville.

He also said that, at the age of 24, he thought of quitting, stating, “I lost my hunger.”
